Sulforaphane from sprouts - broccoli extract Broccoli is much more than just a vegetable. Broccoli, which belongs to the cruciferous family, contains the phytochemical sulforaphane. Sulforaphane is a powerful radical scavenger that was only isolated and described in 1992. Sulforaphane is the active form of a glucoraphane, which in turn is one of over 150 mustard oil glycosides known to date. Mustard oil glycosides are mainly found in broccoli, cauliflower and all other types of cabbage, but also in cress, radish, radish, horseradish and beets. Mustard oil glycosides are responsible for the often bitter and pungent taste of cruciferous vegetables.
