Besides, the plant is also a very pleasant sight as the leaves are beautifully contrasting the inflorescences and its pinky-purple flowers.

In the kitchen: The Thai Basil differs greatly from the European basil varieties. In Asia it is used to spice up salads and fish dishes as well as an ingredient in many chicken dishes and curries with coconut milk. The either whole or chopped leaves are added only at the end of the cooking process, so their full flavour can unfold. Sometimes fried fish or meat is served with deep-fried basil leaves in the Thai kitchen, and the herbal taste of a Vietnamese noodle soup is also mainly based on Thai Basil. You shouldnt dry the leaves after harvesting as they will quickly loose their flavour. Freezing the herb cannot be recommended either, as the leaves will be very slushy after defrosting.
